Three eras, thus three very different approaches without doubt, yet sustained in each case by the same approach to writing and the same characteristics that the russian intelligentsia has always displayed: a profound and total sincerity towards partners in dialogue, whether musical or literary; the willingness to convey directly and uncompromisingly to a consenting audience the sentiments and the impulses of the soul, the echo of intimate and shared sorrows and the recollection of past loves – whether the tears be those of hearts moved by the sweet flow of melody, or those of forced silence, of bodies broken by trials and tribulations.
